House-BrokenHouse Broken by Sonja Yoerg
For veterinarian Geneva Novak, animals can be easier to understand than people. They’re also easier to forgive. But when her mother, Helen, is injured in a vodka-fueled accident, it’s up to Geneva to give her the care she needs.
Since her teens, Geneva has kept her self-destructive mother at arm’s length. Now, with two slippery teenagers of her own at home, the last thing she wants is to add Helen to the mix. but Geneva’s husband convinces her that letting Helen live with them could be her golden chance to repair their relationship.
Geneva isn’t expecting her mother to change anytime soon, but she may finally get answers to the questions she’s been asking for so long. As the truth about her family unfolds, however, Geneva may find secrets too painful to bear and too terrible to forgive.

Reviews
“A contemporary story of the relationships between 3 generations of family members and their challenges told by the mother, daughter and granddaughter. Interesting storyline with a number of subplots of the different relationships within the family and how they deal with issues that arise. A good read, especially for it being the author’s first novel.” – Review by Janice

As media are allowed to go into the impacted areas and capture the aftermath and devastation, it is shocking to see how widespread the floods have damaged – and in some cases washed away – family homes, vehicles and neighbourhoods.

Calgary and southern Albertans have shown great courage and strength amidst this natural disaster.

We applaud all of the heroes who have stepped up with support and the willingness to do whatever is necessary to lend a helping hand.

We are incredibly proud of our 900 Alberta team members for their strength and determination when faced with a variety of adversities to continue to help as many people as possible and for being part of the relief efforts in a variety of ways. READ MORE

Get in the Pink—Pink Shirt Day Feb. 29!

Five years ago, two grade twelve boys from Nova Scotia stood up for a younger boy who was being bullied for wearing the colour pink. They encouraged their schoolmates to wear pink and send a message against bullying. CKNW heard of the story and started running editorial dedicated to anti-bullying. Over time, this became a movement. Its goal is to discourage bullying by encouraging the wearing of the colour pink, and today we all know it as Pink Shirt Day.

2012 is the fifth year for Pink Shirt Day (PinkShirtDay.ca), which will be held on Wednesday, February 29. This is London Drugs’ fourth year of participation, and all locations will be selling pink shirts and buttons to raise awareness and funds for anti-bullying programs supported by the Boys and Girls Clubs of South Coast B.C. as well as the CKNW Orphan’s Fund.

Shirts are available at all
London Drugs locations
Last year, net proceeds of shirt sales at London Drugs totalled $75,000. This year we want to contribute even more, and hope to spread the word even farther that “Bullying stops here.”
