Ottawa pledges to match Canadians’ donations
The Disaster
Typhoon Haiyan ravaged six central Philippine islands on Friday. It is one of the strongest storms to ever make landfall. The true scale of devastation has yet to emerge as communications and transportation links have been shattered, however it is clear that the country is in dire need of help to support rescue, emergency medical assistance and provide basic necessitates to the more than 9.5 million people affected.
Response
The Canadian Red Cross is sending its field hospital to the Philippines and will be working to provide the most urgent needs including emergency medical assistance, clean drinking water and food.
How to Help
London Drugs will be accepting donations to the Red Cross Typhoon Haiyan Fund at all of our cashier tills at all 77 store locations in Western Canada. Ottawa has pledged to match Canadians’ donations to registered charities, including the Canadian Red Cross.
