Stephen’s Backpack delivering hope, happiness and memories for both children and volunteers
The holiday isn’t always the way it’s depicted in the movies. It isn’t always about families gathering together around storybook-perfect fireplaces and Christmas trees. For volunteers with Stephen’s Backpack, Christmas Eve is about delivering hope to homeless families and children in need.
In 2011 London Drugs provided the Salvation Army with wireless pin pads at two locations to increase their donations. With the continued trend of people carrying less cash and more cards in their wallets, this year London Drugs is providing kettle workers at four of its largest locations with wireless pin pads this holiday season.
From Saturday December 15 until Monday, December 24, four locations will offer the ability to make a donation to the Salvation Army using debit and credit cards.
London Drugs & Rogers Radio Partner to Provide Toys for Teens this Christmas
The reality is that many families can’t afford Christmas gifting and it’s teenagers that are often the forgotten ones this time of year. Many prefer to shop for younger children, enjoying the chance to browse the toy aisles. Since it is a little more challenging to shop for a teen, every year the Salvation Army is short on gifts for those aged 10 – 17.
Jack FM Radio Calgary and 660 News Calgary ask you to consider a teen to your Christmas shopping list this year in support of the annual “Toys for Teens” holiday campaign. The campaign is part of the Salvation Army’s Family Christmas Assistance Program which – thanks to the generous donations of Calgarians – provided gifts for 5,448 children last year, of which 1,496 were teens. Rogers Radiohopes to help increase the number this year.
London Drugs thanks Airdrie for the warm welcome with donation for urgently needed items
During the three-day grand opening celebration of the new London Drugs location in Airdrie, customers donated over 18 bags of non-perishable food items to the Airdrie Food Bank. London Drugs is matching all donations made and will give an additional $750 in gift cards which will be used to purchase the urgently needed items on the Airdrie Food Bank’s Christmas Wish List. In addition, London Drugs is providing over 200 toothbrushes.
“Our Wish List includes the “must have” items in every hamper as well as “nice to have” items which we like to provide to ensure every Christmas hamper has a variety of nutritional food and essentials,” said Lori McRitchie, Executive Director of the Airdrie Food Bank.

another dollar is donated to The Salvation Army.
As Five Hole for Food (FHFF) reaches its final Canadian road hockey tour destination in Vancouver on Saturday, July 21, 2012, London Drugs is proud to have already raised more than 8,000 pounds of food for the food bank fundraiser. Worth about $30,000, the donation will be distributed to food banks across Canada.
The 8,000 pounds of food will assist FHFF in their goal to collect 100,000 pounds of food for the country’s food banks this year. London Drugs is ecstatic so many vendor partners came together to provide food for Canadians in need. Food donated includes: Gia Indian Basmati Rice, McVitie’s Digestive Biscuits, Baxter’s Chicken Soup, Barilla Spaghetti, Papagallo Olive Oil, Cheerios, and Seattle’s Best Coffee.
WHO: Team Alliance RIDE FOR HOPE cyclists
WHEN: Wednesday, July 11, 2012
ABBOTSFORD, B.C., July 9, 2012 – On July 11th, 2012 a team of 50 cyclists including Canucks Alumni will Ride For Hope. The sixth annual Ride for Hope will stretch over 200 kilometres, beginning at the Morgan Crossing London Drugs in South Surrey at 8:30 a.m. and finishing at 5:30 p.m. in Hope at the Memorial Park. Along the way participants will make stops at three London Drugs locations in the group’s efforts to raise funds for Canuck Place. London Drugs customers will have the opportunity to meet members of Team Alliance as well as FIN – the Canucks mascot, who will be joining the riders for a fundraising barbecue at London Drugs in Abbotsford from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m.at the West Oaks Mall.

The Ride for Hope charity bike ride was developed to raise awareness and funds for Canuck Place Children’s Hospice, a health care facility that provides specialized care for children living with life-threatening illness and support for their families throughout British Columbia. Team Alliance is a team of like-minded athletes who enjoy achieving their athletic goals by competing and racing in both road and mountain bike events. This year Team Alliance members signing autographs at the Abbotsford London Drugs are Canuck Alumni Jeff Bandura, Terry Bingley, Dean Malkoc, Gary Nylund and Philip Von Stefenelli along with Vaughan Karpan and BC Lions Alumni Shawn Stewart.
For additional fundraising of the Ride For Hope all Lower Mainland London Drugs will be selling Truffini’s 106 gram Chocolate bars for $2.99 with proceeds going to Canuck Place Children’s Hospice.
