Wynne Powell Tribute Dinner Raises $206,000 for BCIT Foundation

B.C. business leader and PHSA Chair honored for entrepreneurship and commitment to province

LD_20140402_816April 3, 2014, Vancouver B.C. – Last night at the Hotel Vancouver, in a room full of more than 700 guests from across North America, $206,000 was raised for the BCIT Foundation as a tribute to Wynne Powell and his distinguished business career and leadership in British Columbia.

Wynne Powell retired as president and CEO of London Drugs on February 23, 2014. His 30 years with London Drugs shaped the evolution of one of B.C.’s largest and most respected entities. And as Premier Christy Clark stated in her message presented in the aptly named ‘British Columbia’ room of the hotel, Wynne’s contributions to the province extend far beyond the running of one of its most successful companies.

Make Some Noise Against Bullying

PinkShirtDay_ld_Cat

London Drugs is honoured to be one of the eight ways that Canadians can make some noise against bullying this Pink Shirt Day on February 26, 2014. Official Pink Shirt Day t-shirts are available in-store at London Drugs locations across Western Canada with net proceeds benefiting CKNW Orphans’ Fund in support of Boys & Girls Clubs Anti-Bullying programs. For the seventh year, London Drugs is building awareness of this powerful campaign by being the exclusive retailer of the official Anti-bullying Pink Shirt Day shirts at all 78 London Drugs locations. Youth and organizations continue to support Pink Shirt Day following the stand of two grade 12 Nova Scotia students In 2007. The students took action after witnessing a grade 9 student being bullied for wearing pink to school and encouraged their schoolmates to wear pink to send a message against bullying. Since then wearing pink shirts has sent a powerful message that Bullying Stops Here.

London Drugs’ Customers Contribute $30,000 & Counting To Flood Victims

flood_1The recent floods in southern Alberta displaced thousands of people from their homes and businesses, and many people have lost everything they own.

As media are allowed to go into the impacted areas and capture the aftermath and devastation, it is shocking to see how widespread the floods have damaged – and in some cases washed away – family homes, vehicles and neighbourhoods.

Calgary and southern Albertans have shown great courage and strength amidst this natural disaster.

We applaud all of the heroes who have stepped up with support and the willingness to do whatever is necessary to lend a helping hand.

We are incredibly proud of our 900 Alberta team members for their strength and determination when faced with a variety of adversities to continue to help as many people as possible and for being part of the relief efforts in a variety of ways. READ MORE

Alberta flood relief donations accepted at all London Drugs stores

flood_1

As we watch the live feeds on what is happening in Calgary, we all want to know what we can do to help the individuals and families impacted by the massive flooding. At London Drugs, we have been communicating through the night and this morning with our local Calgary store managers and district managers to determine how our stores and staff are being affected. Crucial to us at this time is that our staff are safe and that our pharmacies remain 100% operable for London Drugs’ patients and customers. As of 11 am Calgary time, all of our eight Calgary stores are open, although some staff have had difficulty getting to work with the road closures and Mayor Nenshi’s responsible request that people stay home at this time.

London Drugs is distributing water and supplies to our Calgary stores as quickly and responsibly as possible.

London Drugs is also activating an opportunity for Western Canadians to donate to the Red Cross Alberta flood relief efforts at all of our cashier tills at all London Drugs’ 77 stores.

Flood updates can be found at @redcrosscanada:  #abflood and the CBC has a live feed with updates here:
