Richmond, BC, July 19, 2013 – With just two more stops in Five Hole for Food’s (FHFF) cross country road hockey tour – Victoria today and Vancouver tomorrow, July 20th – London Drugs is proud to have already raised more than 26,000 pounds of food for the food bank fundraiser. Worth about $37,000, the donation is three times heavier than last year and will be distributed to food banks across Canada.
London Drugs is thrilled so many participating vendors came together to provide food for Canadians in need. Food donated include Genco Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Gia Indian Basmati Rice, Gia Jasmine Rice, Gia Long Grain Rice, Gia Brown Rice, Kraft Dinner Original, and Italian Plum Tomatoes. The 26,000 pounds of food will assist FHFF in their goal to collect 250,000 pounds of food for local food banks.
“Before we head on the tour each year, the Five Hole for Food team challenges ourselves to raise more food than the previous years ,” said Richard Loat, CEO and founder of Five Hole for Food. “We wouldn’t be able to help community food banks get food on tables without the support of our partners, such as London Drugs. As the Five Hole for Food tour heads into the home stretch, we’re getting close to reaching and possibly surpassing our goal of raising 250,000 pounds of food and London Drugs, its team and its customers’ generosity will play a significant role in this.”
In the past month, London Drugs stores in stops that included Winnipeg, Regina, Calgary, Edmonton, Victoria, and Vancouver have all made it easier for customers to get involved and contribute to the cause. The popular “Will Play Hockey for Food” T-Shirts are available at participating London Drugs stores for $20 with all proceeds supporting Canada’s food banks. Special pricing on foods is also being offered in various food categories to help increase donations in London Drugs’ food bank bins.
Two tour games remain:
Victoria – July 19th at Saanich Plaza
Vancouver – July 20th at Granville Street

About Five Hole for Food
Five Hole for Food is a non-profit organization that plays street hockey across Canada each summer to raise awareness for food banks and collect food donations for them. This grassroots campaign was started by Richard Loat in 2010 and sees him and his volunteers going on a cross-country road trip to give back to the community. Using social media to reach out to hockey fans from coast to coast, Five Hole for Food organizes street hockey games in major cities and encourages people to show up with their hockey stick and a food donation. The 2011 campaign starts June 23 in St. John’s, Nfld., and wraps up July 9 in Vancouver, B.C.
