London Drugs #196 – 1600 15th Ave. Prince George

Kidseat Recyclers is excited to partner with London Drugs in Prince George to offer city and surrounding area residents the opportunity to recycle children’s car seats. Join us Saturday April 16th from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and help keep this massive amount of plastic and metal out of our landfills. For a small fee of $10, Kidseat Recyclers will transport seats to a recycling facility in Alberta, separate the metal from the plastic shells and recycle both. The metal goes to a metal recycling facility and the plastic shells will be re-chipped, baled and resold to be used for a number of different products (such as making plastic building materials). PLEASE NOTE…fabric MUST be removed from seats in order to be accepted.

The Tire Stewardship of BC is offering Prince George and area residents to recycle their old tires at the Spring Clean Up event. Old tires with or without rims can be dropped off during the event. Tires that are up to 39” can be dropped off free of charge.

msi

MSI Canada and London Drugs are joining forces again to bring you the third MSI Canada Dragon Cup Hearthstone Tournament!

Based on Blizzard Entertainment’s world famous multimedia franchise Warcraft, Hearthstone is a fast paced card game where you pit your heroes against your opponents in battle. It’s deceptively simple, which makes it an easy game to play but a difficult game to master.

This year the tournament will be held over two days, with the early rounds taking place on Saturday April 9th and the quarter finals, semi finals, and finals on Sunday April 10th.

The prizes get better this year too. The third place winner will receive $200 cash and an MSI GK701 mechanical keyboard. Second prize is $300 cash and an MSI Z170A SLI Plus Motherboard.

The winner of the competition will see $500 cash and an MSI GTX 960 2G graphics card. Additionally, the winner will qualify to compete in the Enthusiast Gaming Live Expo Hearthstone Tournament in Toronto at the end of April, a chance to compete for a share of the $10,000 prize pool!

Wait, there’s more! London Drugs will be supplying the top three Canadian players in MSI Dragon Cup V3 with $500, $300, and $200 respectively to spend at LondonDrugs.com!

The tournament will once again be streamed online by Twitch user coL_noxios, be sure to tune in to his stream as plenty of swag and prizes will be given away to viewers in Canada and the US! You can also follow along on social media with the hashtag ‪#‎MSIDragonCup3.

LD Experts: On-the-Go Compact Technology

LD Expert Jake

LD Expert Jake Schultz

Just because you’ve travelling or working remotely doesn’t mean you can sacrifice technological productivity. That’s why LD Expert Jake Schultz visited CTV News Calgary to discuss some small, portable options to replace your clunky tech.

Need a printer? The Canon Pixma IP110 Compact Printer is wireless and can print 240 pages on a single charge.

For full-power computing needs, consider a portable device like the N2807 Ultra Compact PC by Certified Data. Since Certified Data is our in-house brand, any repairs, upgrades, or service you require will be done right here in Western Canada.

Next up is the Verbatim Mediashare Wireless Streaming Device. It allows you to share media across your devices, completely wirelessly – using it’s own wifi system.

The D-Link Wireless Travel Router creates a wifi hotspot from an ethernet cord. If your hotel only provides wired internet, this mini router will allow you to use wifi from that internet – and you can connect all of your devices at once.

But what about when you’re out and about and need a charge for your smartphone or tablet? The Logiix Piston Portable Battery Pack can charge your phone (or anything that uses a USB charger) three separate times on a single charge, so you can stay connected.

The last compact product is the Microsoft Universal Foldable Keyboard. It folds up teeny tiny and provides you with a proper, keyed keyboard for those urgent emails.

Visit London Drugs for all of your travel & compact computing needs.

#LDFotocon is back! Apr 16 – June 11

ldphotocon

This is a wonderful time of year to be a photography lover, whether pro or amateur. First of all, May is Photography Month. It’s a celebration that’s been gaining momentum around the world the past few years and 2016 promises to be bigger than ever. As always, the Photolab and the entire London Drugs organization will be doing their part to share the joy with as many people as possible.

Which brings me to the subject of this post: London Drugs is once again bringing back #LDFotocon to help photography lovers celebrate Photography Month. In fact, since last year’s #LDFotocon events were so successful, we are expanding LDFotoCon to more select London Drugs locations as well as having workshops to celebrate Photography Month in all other stores.

In case you missed it, #LDFotocon is a series of informative workshops led by a wide range of ‘Subject Matter Experts’ as they’re formally known,  including:

  • London Drugs Photography, Photolab, Computer and Electronics experts
  • Camera vendors from all the top brands
  • Retouching and colour management experts, and more.

Each workshop is an opportunity to increase your knowledge, upgrade your skills, and expand your network of fellow photography pros and hobbyists in your local area. #LDFotocon events also offer a chance to preview the hottest new cameras and related hardware and software products.

Subjects covered in this year’s workshops include:

  • Point-and-shoot photography tips
  • DSLR showcases from the top brands: Nikon, Canon, Pentax
  • Compact system camera (CSC) photography and showcases from top brands
  • Drone photography
  • Mobile made easy: capturing images on your smartphone
  • How to build a Moments photo book or calendar
  • Making a photo mug
  • How to build greeting cards: perfect for Mother’s Day
  • Showcasing your photos on your walls with ultimate enlargements, gallery wraps, aluminum panels and fine art paper options.

There will even be representatives from London Drugs Pharmacy departments providing travel health clinics to prepare you for your next photo expedition.

This year, LDFotoCon events will be running in select London Drugs stores from April 16 to June 11. Check out the #LDFotocon website for dates and store locations, or visit our in-store workshops site to view workshops in all other stores. Attendance is always free, and each workshop offers you an opportunity to grow as a photographer—so feel free to attend as many as you can.  Even if you don’t see a particular subject interest of yours in your local store’s event schedule, keep in mind that each #LDFotocon location will also feature an all-day tradeshow with even more suppliers and store departments involved. In fact, it’s hard to imagine a larger and more comprehensive event devoted to photography—right in your neighbourhood, no less—so make sure you don’t miss it! If you’d like to help spread the word, be sure to use the hashtags #LDFotocon and #MayisPhotoMonth throughout the social media world.

Book of the Month – April

book_of_the_month_2016_blog
at-the-waters-edgeAt the Water’s Edge
by Sara Gruen
In January 1945, when Madeline Hyde and her husband, Ellis, are cut off financially by his father, a retired army colonel who is ashamed of his son’s inability to serve, Ellis decides that the only way to regain his father’s favor is to succeed where the Colonel very publicly failed – by hunting down the famous Loch Ness monster. Leaving her sheltered world behind, Maddie reluctantly follows Ellis and his best friend, Hank, to a remote village in the Scottish Highlands. Gradually the friendships Maddie forms with the townspeople open her up to a larger world than she knew existed. Maddie begins to see that nothing is as it first appears, and as she embraces a fuller sense of who she might be, she becomes aware not only of darker forces around her but of life’s surprising possibilities.

Book of the Month
Every month we will be featuring a new book to be showcased in our Book of the Month. Staff members and friends will be reading the book and posting their reviews. We’d love to hear what you thought of these books as well. Post your comments and let us know.

At the Water’s Edge is available at London Drugs along with many other great titles and is on sale for the month of April.
