How to Donate to Your Local Food Bank

Over 850,000 Canadians use a food bank at least once a month. Reach out a hand to the hungry this year with our get-started guide:

  1. Get nutritious: Think high-protein goods like canned tuna, beans and nut butters, and vitamin-packed low-sugar tinned fruit, applesauce and veggie soups. Low-sugar cereals and granola bars are also welcome.
  2. Be practical: Pop-top tins are easy to open and eat without kitchen facilities. Remember that toilet paper, toothbrushes and feminine hygiene products are also often desperately needed.
  3. Treats welcome: Chocolate bars, pretzels and boxed sweets are thoughtful additions for the holiday season.
  4. Consult an expert: Contact your local food bank (here are links for Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton) to check what’s most needed in your area.
