In the fall London Drugs made a generous donation to the Health & Home CARE Society of BC. The organization runs the Meals on Wheels program in Richmond. London Drugs store manager, Barry Mark presented Executive Director, Inge Schamborzki with a $5,000 donation to help the food service program in Richmond.

This generous donation will fund 800 hot meals and brief, friendly visits by Care BC’s volunteers to the Meals on Wheels clients. Each delivery provides an informal safety check for each meal recipient and allows Richmond residents isolated in their homes due to age or frailty feel connected to their communities.

Since 1967, the Meals on Wheels program has provided hot, nutritious meals and warm, friendly visits to people throughout Vancouver and Richmond. The program, which began with a handful of meals delivered in Kitsilano, now delivers more than 400 meals every weekday. The program also includes one of Canada’s first Chinese Meals on Wheels services, launched in 1996 to provide authentic Asian cuisine and Chinese-speaking volunteers for the region’s changing population.

In October, London Drugs made a valuable contribution to the Arts Umbrella. London Drugs Cambie and West Broadway store manager, Dave Woogman, presented Arts Umbrella President and CEO, Lucille Pacey, with a $5,000 donation to help contribute towards subsidized programs.

This generous donation will contribute towards the Arts Umbrella bursary program that is designed to help families with financial barriers provide arts experiences to their children. Through this donation, Arts Umbrella can continue to equip children with the highest quality arts training through their programs for children 2-19 years of age.

Arts Umbrella is a foundation that offers programs in Visual and Performing Arts to encourage the ideas in children’s minds. By supporting the lifelong love of art that may begin at a young age, Art Umbrella is interested in cultivating artists and ultimately cultivating an environment. Here, kids can be themselves, explore their identities, and grow into strong capable people with thoughts, visions, and ideas about the world.

BC Weather Relief 6x4

With increasing wildfire activity across Canada, many families are being evacuated from their homes. Fire ratings continue to remain high to extreme across British Columbia, and the dry conditions have left many communities susceptible to flash flooding. There are currently 68 active fires of note and/or fires larger than 10 hectares as of Thursday, July 30th.

The Canadian Red Cross supports people affected by emergencies and disasters with basic needs and recovery assistance. With the increase in both the number and severity of emergencies across Canada, the Canadian Red Cross needs financial support so its volunteers can meet the humanitarian needs of those impacted. Customers can help by donating to the Canadian Red Cross at London Drugs.
