Denise Dow grew up as the daughter of a member of the Canadian Coast Guard, so she has always been proud of the Maple Leaf flag. But she wanted to take that passion further. In 2006, she designed her own plaque, drawing the design from actual maple leaves she picked off of the tree in her backyard and carving the wood in her own workshop.
Dow and her partner Patricia Gallagher travelled to the 2010 Olympics, taking fresh inspiration from Canadian athletes’ performances. They have since been selling their products online and wholesale to retailers all across Canada from their home in Saint John, NB. Now, Strong & Free design has become an iconic Canadian brand, adorning a whole line of products.
