We all know the drill. The sun comes out, you run outside to enjoy it, and hours later you return indoors to find a sunburn. Ouch. The dangers of UVA and UVB rays are significant, so take a cue from LD Expert Amanda and take care of your skin. In this two-part feature on CFJC Midday Kamloops, Amanda covers off the St. Tropez sunless tanning line as well as some best practices for sunscreen application.
Self Tanner
Whether you prefer a foam or lotion, or gradual or instant colour, St. Tropez has your sunless tanning needs covered. The unique application mitt ensures a smooth, streak-free finish, and the colour is bronzed but never orange. There’s also a fantastic new product called the Gradual Tan In-Shower Tanning Lotion that will help prolong your sunless tan, and the Self Tan Luxe Dry Oil that will add a little shimmer to your tan.
Sunscreen
Anywhere from SPF 15 – 60 is what you want, but usually SPF 30 is the sweet spot. Watch for terms like broad spectrum, UVA, and UVB to ensure the best protection from the sun. Further, the amount of sunscreen you apply is also important. A full body application of sunscreen requires 1.5 oz of sunscreen. If you’re just applying to your face, you need about a teaspoon of sunscreen. Last, don’t forget to reapply – every 2 hours, and more often if you’re sweating or swimming.
La Roche-Posay offers a nice lotion formula sunscreen, plus an after-sun lotion for those days when you get a little crispy. Spray sunscreens, like the Vichy Soleil Invisible Hydrating Mist, are also an option. Amanda recommends spraying your body, waiting for it to dry, and spraying again. Also, for the face, remember to spray it into your hands and then apply to your face. Lastly, Clarins UV 50 Multi-Protection Sunscreen is SPF 50 and it’s so lightweight, it can be worn under a full face of makeup. It’s also a great option for men with short or thinning hair – it’ll keep their scalp protected throughout the day.
