London Drugs’ Customers Contribute $30,000 & Counting To Flood Victims

flood_1The recent floods in southern Alberta displaced thousands of people from their homes and businesses, and many people have lost everything they own.

As media are allowed to go into the impacted areas and capture the aftermath and devastation, it is shocking to see how widespread the floods have damaged – and in some cases washed away – family homes, vehicles and neighbourhoods.

Calgary and southern Albertans have shown great courage and strength amidst this natural disaster.

We applaud all of the heroes who have stepped up with support and the willingness to do whatever is necessary to lend a helping hand.

We are incredibly proud of our 900 Alberta team members for their strength and determination when faced with a variety of adversities to continue to help as many people as possible and for being part of the relief efforts in a variety of ways.

We also extend many thanks to our customers for stepping up and donating money through our cashiers to the Canadian Red Cross in a time of great concern. It is the fastest donation drive we have ever participated in, and it’s not over.

In the last four days, London Drugs’ customers have donated $30,000 to the Canadian Red Cross in support of their important relief efforts in Alberta.

This fast outpouring of donations from London Drugs’ customers will help the Canadian Red Cross support shelters and reception centres in various affected communities including:

* Siksika

* Morley

* Tsu T’sina

* Blackie

* Nanton

* Medicine Hat

* Okotoks

* Calgary

In addition, funds will be used to provide basic necessities to these shelters such as cots, hygiene kits and blankets, which will meet the needs requested by affected municipalities and counties.

However, the support and relief efforts have only just begun, and the people of southern Alberta will require continued help in the months to come.

London Drugs will continue to accept donations for the Canadian Red Cross Alberta flood relief efforts at any cashier at all London Drugs’ 77 stores.

We invite you to join us in continuing this support of southern Alberta as communities rebuild from this disaster.
