There they are on the Photolab source page…the best social media sites for photography, all ready to print!

As we’ve said many times here on the Photoblog, we like social media. More than that, we are actually grateful for it; as it has made photography part of everyday life for more people than ever. This, in turn, has spurred huge technological advances in both cameras and printing. And now that your favourite photography social media accounts are accessible in your online Photolab account, it’s never been easier to turn your photos into high quality, highly customized prints.

HERE’S HOW

I recently did a step-by-step post outlining how to access your Instagram photos through your Photolab account. You can also access your Facebook photo albums. From the source page, choose the social media account you want to access. A pop-up will allow you to log in and access your social media account (I believe it’s called an ‘API’, for you computer-savvy types), and you will instantly be able to see and select your social media photos!

HERE’S WHY

Again, these have been covered in some depth in past posts like this one, but to make sure you’ve got the message here are just a couple of reasons:

  • They’re probably amazing (at least some of them). Vacations, holidays, weddings, birthdays, your most beautiful photos, your most sentimental photos, your most skillfully shot photos…nowadays they probably all live on your social media sites. No doubt many of them would look absolutely incredible on your wall or in an album, deserving a better fate than being relegated further down the scroll as you upload new photos.
  • Prints reveal a depth and richness that screens simply can’t. Retina screens are pretty sweet, but they’re still no match for a quality print on quality paper. That’s especially true when it comes to fine art prints. Plus, looking at something on a screen is just not the same experience as seeing it firsthand, which is why galleries and museums still exist. Do yourself a favour: save your screen for streaming videos, and print your favourite photos instead.

Lastly…

  • It’s simple. If you can use a computer or device well enough to upload your photos to social media, then you also have sufficient skill to print them via the Photolab. Did you catch that? I said ‘device’! Yes, because now you can print your photos using you favourite smartphone or tablet. In fact, I wrote a post about it. And don’t worry, if you do encounter any issues, your local Photolab technician can guide you step-be-step through the process.
